Saint-Estèphe

Located in Saint-Estèphe, one of Bordeaux’s most renowned wine villages, the château sits among some of the region’s most iconic estates. The area is known for its structured wines, quiet roads, and unspoilt vineyard landscapes.

You’re around one hour from Bordeaux city and the Atlantic coast, making it easy to combine wine, culture, and seaside trips. Local bakeries, markets, and restaurants offer a taste of the region’s slower pace of life, while cycling routes and scenic drives pass directly through the surrounding vineyards.

The château is set among prestigious neighbours such as Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose, placing you right at the heart of one of the Médoc’s most respected terroirs.

Chateau La Haye

Set in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château La Haye is a historic wine estate offering a rare opportunity to stay inside a working Médoc château. Surrounded by vineyards and steeped in centuries of history, the house combines authentic character—wood panelling, original floors, and elegant salons—with generous space for up to 10 guests.
Guests enjoy exclusive access to the château’s living areas, including multiple salons, a large kitchen, and spacious bedrooms, while the winery remains active during the day—adding to the unique atmosphere of the estate. Whether for a relaxed countryside stay, a wine-focused escape, or a special gathering, the château offers a setting that is both refined and deeply rooted in Bordeaux tradition.

Your Hosts

We are Simon & Chris, hosts with a background in hospitality, wine, and guest experience. Having run our own café and guesthouse for many years, we care about the details that make a stay feel effortless and memorable.
During the season, we are on-site to welcome guests, share our knowledge of the region, and—if you wish—introduce you to the wines of the estate through informal tastings. Our approach is relaxed, attentive, and always tailored to the pace of our guests.

Experiences & Local Life

Beyond the obvious pleasure of wine tasting, Château La Haye is perfectly placed to explore the wider Médoc lifestyle — from vineyard villages and Atlantic beaches to markets, long lunches, and quiet roads winding through the vines.

Around Saint-Estèphe & Pauillac

Discover the character of the northern Médoc through nearby villages, cafés, bakeries, markets, and wine routes. Stroll along the Gironde estuary in nearby Pauillac, browse weekly village markets, or spend slow mornings picking up pastries from local boulangeries.

Throughout the summer, the region comes alive with evening food markets, open-air events, and relaxed village fêtes where locals gather for wine, oysters, grilled food, and music under the trees.

Château La Haye Experiences

During the season, the estate also hosts its own relaxed Thursday evening “after work” events in the winery — informal evenings bringing together wine, conversation, and the atmosphere of the château after the cellar day winds down.

Guests can also arrange:

  • Informal wine tastings at the estate
  • Guided vineyard runs with in-house runner Simon
  • Scenic walking routes through the vines
  • Private chef experiences for celebrations and dinners
  • Local food and wine recommendations
  • Ready meals prepared for your arrival
  • A stocked fridge filled with regional specialities
  • Fresh bread & pastry delivery in the mornings

Explore Further

The château makes an ideal base for discovering the wider Bordeaux region:

  • Day trips to Bordeaux
  • Seafood lunches and beaches around Cap Ferret
  • The large freshwater lake of Hourtin-Carcans Lake for swimming, watersports, and family days out
  • Atlantic coastline villages and oyster shacks
  • Fine dining restaurants and relaxed countryside bistros throughout the Médoc

Active & Outdoor

The quiet roads and vineyard tracks surrounding Saint-Estèphe are ideal for exploring by foot, bike, or run. Traditional bikes and e-bikes can be rented locally, and the region is particularly popular with cyclists thanks to its flat roads and open landscapes.

Back at the château, guests can enjoy:

  • Pétanque in the private garden
  • Barbecues on warm summer evenings
  • Long outdoor lunches among the vines
  • Peaceful mornings overlooking the estate

Whether you want a food-and-wine escape, active countryside holiday, or a slow gathering with friends and family, Château La Haye offers a different side of Bordeaux — relaxed, authentic, and deeply connected to the rhythm of the vineyards.
